HOW TO READ THE NOTATIONS

  • CAPITAL LETTERS
    = Shuddh Swars (Natural Notes)
  • small letters
    = Komal Swars (Flat Notes)
  • M with # [hash] or ^ [exponent]
    = Tivra Madhyam (M# / M^)
  • Letter/Alphabet ONLY
    = Medium Pitch/Normal blow on flute
  • Letter/Alphabet PRECEDED BY a ” . ” [full stop] or  a ” , ” [comma]
    = Low Octave Note/Softer blow on flute
  • Letter/Alphabet FOLLOWED BY a ‘ [single quote]
    = High Octave Note/harder blow on flute
  • Notes in { }
    = “murki” have to be played very fast without any pause
  • A Note in ( )
    = “kann swar” has to be just touched before moving on to the next note
  • A “~” between two Notes 
    = “meend”. That is, you have to glide from one note to another slowly to produce that wavy effect.
  • Few “….” (dots) after a note 
    = Play and hold that note

  1. Hello..first of all let me thank you for publishing the notations of songs ,jingles etc in Indian notations as it is very hard to find otherwise and I am extremely grateful to you for it..
    I have certain questions and I will be extremely grateful if you can help me out:
    Firstly I play the sitar and am trying to do a cover of this song..but the representations of notes of higher octaves and lower octaves are different here from what I learnt..moreover what is meant by notes in {} and ()? For example {DP} and (RGR)..what do they signify?and what does ‘~’ signify?does it mean that the note played is to be made to persist for sometime?

    I will be extremely grateful if you can clear my doubts..thank You in advance 🙂
